The Dutch market for supermarkets seems to be saturated. Nevertheless, the local Dutch supermarket chain MCD saw opportunities for a local and friendly formula. As a family business, MCD wanted to profile itself against the large national players in the Netherlands, such as market leader Albert Heijn and the number two Jumbo. Together with the Boon family, JDV found the gap in the market for a new MCD formula: Boon's Market.
